Friday 27 Mar 2009 12:59pm

Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced that new the Airbus A380s will come into service on the airline's current routes from Toronto and Bangkok to Dubai later this year. The A380s will start operating on June 1st, increasing Emirates' current passenger capacities by some 30 per cent on both routes. Emirates' A380 will be the first to fly to Canada, while the A380 flights to the Thai capital Bangkok marks the increased importance of the aircraft in the Asia Pacific region. The launch of the A380 to Thailand follows hot on the heels of Emirates' A380 flights to Sydney in Australia and Auckland in New Zealand. Emirates president, Tim Clark, said: 'We are extremely pleased to announce the introduction of the A380 for our Toronto and Bangkok services. Our Toronto route has had consistently high demand since the thrice-weekly service was launched two years ago. 'The A380 will allow Emirates to address some of the unmet need in Toronto, while in Bangkok the A380 will help support the Thai government's new tourism initiatives. ' In other Emirates news, the airline recently unveiled a new technology and entertainment area in its business class lounge in Dubai Airport, called 'e-zone'.
