Qatar Airways launches flights to Melbourne from December

Tuesday 08 Dec 2009 6:44am

Qatar Airways has announced that it is finalising arrangements for its launch of new services from Doha to Melbourne this month. From 6 December, Qatar Airways will operate services three times a week, before moving to a daily service from 1 January 2010. The airline has recruited new staff in Australia in preparation for the launch and plans to further increase its workforce in the country by 25 to 30 per cent in the next few weeks. Qatar Airways' senior vice-president of commercial operations, Marwan Koleilat, said: 'Australia is a key market for the continued growth of Qatar Airways and we are excited with the response we have already received from both the trade as well as the public. 'Since our recent briefings to the travel trade on our Melbourne flights, we have had double-digit growth in forward bookings, with June to August 2010 looking particularly robust. ' Mr Koleilat also suggested the airline's launch of introductory fares in September had generated strong demand for business class seats. Qatar Airways plans to continue to expand its flight offering in Australia with new flights to Sydney early next year.
