FlyDubai is Emirates new budget airline

Friday 27 Jun 2008 8:31am

Traditional airline Emirates is to launch the Gulf state's new and first budget airline called FlyDubai. The new airline will focus on flights within the Gulf region and neighbouring countries and will be a no-frills airline. Although the new airline is backed by Emirates, it will be run as a completely separate company and hopes to win back those passengers who have been turning away from Emirates due to high fares and the full service they provide. The first FlyDubai flights will launch in mid-2009. The Chief Executive of the new FlyDubai airline said [quote] 'We are recruiting for key positions, evaluating aircraft options and routes, working out our pricing and distribution strategy, and putting in place the structure and operational resources for the business'. For travellers wanting to fly within the Dubai and Gulf region, the new airline is expected to offer a cheap alternative to the more expensive and traditional airlines such as Emirates. Unfortunately the scope of FlyDubai flights will not extend as far as Europe or the UK - but even within the Gulf and Asia, it is expected to potentially cover an area with 2 billion people.
