Tuesday 30 Dec 2008 11:07am

Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced that it has begun operating a new Airbus A380 on flights from London Heathrow Airport to Dubai International Airport. Emirates' A380's maiden voyage was on December 1st on flight EK001, which departs at 07:45 from Dubai daily and arrives at Heathrow Airport at 11:35. The A380 also served the return EK002 service, which departs from London at 13:45 and arrives in Dubai at 00:30 the next day. The new A380 is the third of Emirates' the 58 ordered aircraft. The airline is currently Airbus' largest customer for the A380 aircraft. Emirates president Tim Clark said: 'We are delighted to bring our customers state-of-the-art comforts which are unmatched anywhere else in the world. 'Despite today's challenging economic environment, they have responded by booking every seat on our inbound and outbound flights. ' With the new A380 on the Heathrow Airport to Dubai route, Emirates offers 489 seats across two levels, including 14 first class suites, 76 business class seats and 399 economy spaces. Emirates already operates two Airbus A380s to fly to New York and plans to introduce the Airbus liner on its routes to Sydney and Auckland in February next year.
