Turkey In Demand for Summer Holidays

Wednesday 05 May 2010 8:36pm

Greece's recent economic problems and the resulting strikes and riots have had a terribly adverse effect on the Greek tourism industry, but they have been a boon for the Turkish economy as they stand poised to take over Greece's tourist market. While news of unrest in Greece is hurting their tourism industry, Turkey is seeing in influx of tourists who originally had intended to visit Greece. On a positive note, though, this means that in the future there will be plenty of bargains as Greece tries to boost their tourism industry again. If running a comparison of tourist options in Greece and Turkey, you will find that they offer similar choices, being similar distances from the UK and having similar climates and clientele. For travel planners in Britain, switching from recommending Greece to Turkey has been simple as they are both great places for sun and sand. Another PR boost for Turkey has come from Istanbul being named a European City of Culture in 2010, so things keep looking up for Turkish tourism.
