Holiday jet hits weather balloon

Friday 25 May 2007 5:11pm

Holiday makers had a disrupted journey on their flight to Majorca when the plane hit a weather balloon. Passengers initially thought the plane exploded as there was a loud bang and the plane dropped thousands of feet. The Thomson flight was enroute from East Midlands Airport to Majorca, Spain when the collision occurred. The pilot made an emergency landing at Barcelona Airport where the passengers were kept for 8 hours before flying on to Majorca. Passengers praised the Pilot and cabin crew's professionalism. Flying Abroad Comment: travelling by plane is an extremely safe way of flying with the odds of anything disasterous happening being lower than convention car or bus travel. Accidents such as this are very rare, so don't let it put you off!
