Passenger Numbers Up for Heathrow Airport in February

Wednesday 31 Mar 2010 8:30pm

Recently released February reports indicate that Heathrow Airport is still the busiest travel hub in the UK. Passenger traffic was up 5. 3 percent in February, according to the figures from BAA, the company that operates Heathrow Airport and several others in the UK. In comparison, passenger traffic at the Stansted Airport dropped 4. 5 percent in February. February's passenger traffic at the airports was not inhibited by snowfall as it was in January, which allowed for the figures to increase. Edinburgh Airport's numbers rose thanks to the Six Nations rugby clashes held in Scotland, which many people took a holiday to attend. 'Heathrow remains resilient,' according to BAA's chief executive officer, Colin Matthews, 'and other airports are beginning to see encouraging signs. ' This statement was made after Gatwick Airport announced this week an increase of 3. 2 percent in passenger traffic in February. Booking travel through Europe's second largest travel hub to European destinations seemed more popular, while booking travel from the same airport to north Atlantic destinations declined.
