Friday 30 Mar 2007 1:35am

Travelling from or to Gatwick airport using the Gatwick Express will now be much easier with Oyster travel cards being able to be used on the service. Historically, Transport for London and Gatwick Express were separate meaning that travellers needed to buy two sets of tickets. With the introduction of Oyster Cards onto the Gatwick Express, travellers can now use the card from the moment they leave the airport. The Oyster Cards are a great success with over 10 million issued to date. They are a pay as you go card and not limited by time - so travellers can use it for future visits, or even give the card to someone else. Major of London, Ken Livingstone said [Quote] "This deal with Gatwick Express is another good example of the work that we are doing to make it easier for visitors to London to get around the city. The Oyster system is a proven success, with more than 10 million cards issued. This deal enables us to reach more people coming to London from overseas, meaning that more visitors can get the benefits of cheaper, simpler, and quicker journeys that come with using the Oyster card. " The Oyster Cards can also be used anywhere on London's transport system including on boards trains to London Victoria.
