Silverjet may fly again as Swiss show an interest in the Airline

Thursday 12 Jun 2008 8:30am

Silverjet, the business class only airline that flew from London Luton to New York and Luton to Dubai went into administration last week after investment and funds failed to materialise - the airline effectively ran out of money. A Swiss investment firm has made a formal offer to take over the bankrupt airline, and the airline has also received interest from two other companies. The Swiss copany based in Geneva wants to resume Silverjet's operations as soon as possition, but the UK Airport authority has hinted that any new investment will need to be sufficient for the airline to have atleast 6 months capital investment before they will be allowed to fly commercially again - something that is normally required of new airlines. Soaring fuel costs have made it extremely difficult for airlines to be profitable, and in the last 12 months, EOS Airlines and Maxjet airlines - both business class only airlines - have collapsed and are no loner flying. Passengers wanting to fly transatlantic from London to New York should look into airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways or an American airline such as American Airlines or Continental Airlines who operate daily flights between the two cities and also have business class.
