Monarch extends onboard recycling

Tuesday 22 Jan 2008 6:15pm

Back in October 2007, Monarch announced it would introduce inflight recycling for all flights flying into London Gatwick. All aluminium, plastic, glass and paper on these flights is recycled on top of the existing paper collection they had done for a number of years. Its estimated that on this basis, over 70% of cabin waste can be recycled. The new move to extend the recycling will cover flights into Birmingham, West Midlands. Once each plane has landed, the separated and bagged recycling is dealt with by staff at the airport. Monarch's Managing Director called for other airports to put more recycling infrastructure into other UK and European airports so that more airlines can adpot similar recycling strategies. Monarch has a long term plan for environmental planning which aims to reduce the airline's carbon footprint and carbon off-setting to passengers.
