Ryanair extends peak season baggage charges

Sunday 08 Aug 2010 8:55pm

Ryanair flyers to the Canary Island will have to pay peak season baggage charges all year round. Ryanair announced that while baggage charges on other routes will drop to £15 (£25 for heavier bags) from September 1st, flyers to the Canary Islands will not benefit from the reduction. Specifically, passengers bound for Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Fuerteventura will have to pay £20 per bag (£30 for heavy bags) each way, unless they only carry hand luggage for the two journeys. Of course, Ryanair has said they are doing this to encourage travellers to travel light, but we suspect that it's simply to extract additional revenue, where customers are faced with little choice. According to Ryanair, around 70% of Canary Islands travellers will unaffected by the additional charges as they already travel with hand luggage only.
