Terminal 5 turns into a TMobile WiFi hotspot

Friday 12 Sep 2008 6:59am

T-Mobile has created its biggest indoor Wi-Fi hotspot in the UK in Terminal 5 at London Heathrow Airport. The Wi-Fi access zone will give all Terminal 5 passengers access to wireless internet via their mobile phones, laptops and PDAs, allowing them to use specialist travel applications. The new mega hotspot covers an area equivalent to nearly 50 football pitches and has been developed in partnership with BAA, the airport's operator. Wi-Fi services will also be available to T-Mobile users at other terminals at Heathrow Airport. Passengers who use other mobile phone networks will still be able to gain wireless access at the Terminal 5 hotspot, but for a £5 charge for one hour's use or £10 for up to 24 hours. These charges are payable by credit card. Head of commercial telecoms at BAA Ian Denchfield commented: 'BAA has a long-standing relationship with T-Mobile, together consistently meeting passengers' expectations to ensure up-to-the-minute technology for travellers. 'Seamless internet connectivity is an important part of our commitment to innovation and will form a key element in the future of travel. ' More than 27 million people are expected to pass through Heathrow's Terminal 5 annually, all of whom will be able to make use of T-mobile's service. However, the wireless hotspot is expected to be particularly popular with business passengers.
