First A380 for Qantas

Saturday 04 Oct 2008 6:25am

Australia's national airline Qantas has received the first of its 20 new Airbus A380 aircraft. Qantas' chief executive officer Geoff Dixon said that the arrival of the new aircraft heralded the beginning of a new era for the airline, which is said to be the world's most experienced airline. 'No other airline has flown as far as Qantas for as long as Qantas, so we know very well the value of a well designed inflight product for long haul flights,' he said. 'The A380, with its extra space, new materials and advanced technology, has given us the ideal platform to reinvent the inflight experience. ' Qantas sought the expertise of industrial designer Mark Newson to design and create the interiors for its new A380 planes. Each new Qantas A380 will provide 332 seats in economy class, 72 seats in business class, 32 premium economy spaces and 14 first class seats. A number of checks are planned before Qantas intend operating its first commercial passenger service with the new aircraft on a flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles on October 20th. Qantas will expand its schedule of A380 flights with flights from London Heathrow to Sydney via Singapore in January next year.
