Saturday 28 Mar 2009 8:07am

Edinburgh could prove a popular destination with sports fans later this year when it hosts its first Festival of Rugby. The festival starts on the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd, when a full round of seven Super League fixtures will be played at the city's Murrayfield stadium. Murrayfield will also host the final of the biggest club rugby tournament in Europe, the Heineken Cup, on May 23rd. Cardiff Blues, Harlequins, Ospreys and Toulouse are just some of the teams still in the running to win the Heineken Cup, which is approaching the quarter-final stage. The cup's next matches are due to be played on April 11th and 12th. Edinburgh will later host the final leg of the IRB Sevens World Series. The Sevens World Series will bring a number of international rugby teams to Murrayfield on May 30th and 31st, concluding the competition that started in November last year in Dubai. Rugby fans can book flights to Edinburgh from London airports with a range of airlines including bmi, British Airways and easyJet.
