British Airways prepares to service first A380 landing at Heathrow

Monday 17 Mar 2008 11:08pm

Tuesday March 18th at 3. 15pm marks a historic day for Heathrow Airport - where Singapore Airline's first Airbus A380 will fly into the airport on the first leg of its regular daily service from Singapore to London. British Airways technicians will handle maintenance of the doubler-decker plane owned by Singapore Airlines. British Airways itself will have Airbus's A380 superjumbo aircraft with 12 due for delivery from April 2012. The A380 is a strategic move by British Airways and it will have the largest fleet of A380's at Heathrow once all their order has been delivered from Airbus. By 2014, its estimated by over 200 British Airways pilots will be trained to fly the A380. The airline will use the superjumbo (which carries over 400 passengers in a double-decker layout) on routes such as London to Singapore, Hong Kong and Johannesbourg. BA's commercial director said [quote] "Just as Terminal 5 enables us to improve the customer experience on the ground, the A380 will give us the opportunity to raise standards in all cabins. We see the A380 as a catalyst for change, and our goal will be to offer the very best of onboard hospitality and overall journey experience. " British Airways will soon move into the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow which was opened by the Queen earlier in the month.
