Extra flights from Glasgow Airport

Tuesday 06 Jan 2009 8:13am

Additional flights from Glasgow Airport to Tenerife and Gran Canaria have been added as the airport strives to fill flight slots left open following the collapse of airlines XL and Zoom earlier this year. Glasgow airport now claims to have sourced some 88 per cent of the seat capacity lost after the collapse of XL, by working with Teleticket and Scottravel who are offering additional services to Alicante, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Turkey. Canadian Affair currently operates 11 weekly flights between Toronto and Glasgow Airport, while the airport seeks to offer more flights to Canada next year than in 2008. Amanda McMillan, Glasgow Airport's managing director, said: 'Given the current economic climate, this is a real vote of confidence in Glasgow airport from the airline industry, and a sign of our real commitment to gain new business for Glasgow. ' It has also been reported that figures from Norwich International Airport are in talks with airlines to restart flights to Brussels, Paris and Spain, which were cancelled earlier this year.
