Birmingham to Larnaca route is Monarchs best seller

Saturday 11 Apr 2009 8:11am

The Luton-based airline Monarch airlines has revealed that it has been surprised by how quickly its recently introduced route from Birmingham International Airport to Cyprus has sold. Approximately half of Monarch's 22,000 seats for its summer schedule of flights on the Birmingham to Larnaca route have been sold already. Tim Jeans, Monarch's chief executive, said: 'Normally we would expected [it] to take at least a year to build up a route to that kind of sales. ' Monarch's inaugural flight from Birmingham International to Larnaca departed on Wednesday (1st April). The airline will be operating a twice weekly service. 'We operate 42 different routes from airports around the country and at the moment this is the number one best seller of any of them,' Mr Jeans added. Mr Jeans also intimated that the continued success of the Larnaca route would see Monarch become the 'largest British operator service' to Cyprus this summer. Larnaca's picturesque coastline, friendly people, and huge choice of bars, clubs and restaurants have cited as reasons why it is such a popular destination with British tourists.
