Sydney may be known as the Harbour City; it is also be quite famous for the view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Sydney may also be the Australian city which many people think is the capital of Australia, although it is not. But when you see through all the images of Sydney and its myths, you will actually find a city which is bursting with things to do, places to see and visit, a fantastic night scene and some wonderful beaches in very close proximity. What more could you wish for in one city? Sydney is a real tourist hotspot with some excellent supporting facilities, which is what you would expect in a city where tourists flock from all over the world. Yet it is large enough to accommodate them comfortably so you never feel you are in a tourist ghetto, as you may in some other smaller tourist spots.

Enjoying a relatively temperate climate, Sydney offers a great opportunity to experience some excellent weather without being too hot and uncomfortable most of the time, although the peak summer temperatures can be quite hot. Being the most populated of Australian cities, with over 4 million people living in Sydney it is also a real melting pot of cultures, something that Sydney and its people are very proud of. The most immigrants have come from the United Kingdom, but Chinese, Vietnamese and New Zealanders also have a significant influence. For things to do, you will not be at a loss, but you may well find that your only problem is actually choosing what to do; there is simply too much to pack into just the one visit. But top of most peoples list are taking a trip down to the harbour, so that you can capture the view of the Opera House and the Bridge for yourself. You should also think about coming down again of an evening, because again the views are simply stunning. There are many museums and art galleries to visit. One of these is the Australian Museum which is home to an amazing collection of anthropological and natural history exhibits. Even non museum lovers will be intrigued by the artefacts and it is a fascinating day out for the whole family. Shoppers will delight in the various shops and boutiques which Sydney has to offer ranging from speciality shops to the large department stores. Try taking a trip to Paddy's Market, for a really different day out. Sports lovers will also find that Sydney has a vibrant sporting scene with lots of different tastes catered for. Culture vultures will also be amazed by the quality and range of some of the shows and performances to be found in Sydney, from small very informal venues to the sheer grandeur of the Opera House. Nightlife in Sydney is also very dynamic, with something for all and some really excellent clubs and bars. For those with more placid tastes, fine dining experiences are also very easy to come by. So make sure that Sydney is top of your list when planning a trip to Oz.
