Continental London to New York flight changes

Saturday 27 Sep 2008 8:45am

Continental Airlines has announced changes to its London to New York routes, including plans to add increase its daily service from London Heathrow to New York to three flights daily. The new non-stop flight between Continental's Newark Airport hub in New York and London Heathrow will be launched on October 25th, provided government approval is granted. Continental will also discontinue its schedule of operations to Gatwick Airport from both New York and Houston, Texas on the same date. However, the current schedule of two daily flights between Houston and London Heathrow will continue along with the planned extra flights from Newark Airport to Heathrow. Continental's executive vice-president of marketing Jim Compton said that the company's focus on increasing its services from Heathrow Airport at the expense of the former Gatwick flights is a reaction to the 'changing realities of the marketplace'. Mr Compton added: 'Our customers have shown a clear preference for Heathrow, and our main competitors have focused their operations there. 'We regret the need to end year-round operations at Gatwick, but it is imperative that we remain competitive and continue to meet the needs of our customers. '
