European airfares are falling

Sunday 03 May 2009 9:41am

The cost of airfares to a number of European destinations has fallen significantly, according to a report from cheapflights. co. uk. The cheap flights search engine has found that some fares to Mediterranean destinations such as Nice, Cannes and Barcelona are as much as 75% cheaper, year on year. This time last year, return flights to Nice and Cannes averaged £112. Flights to the same destinations now are on offer at £28 including taxes. Flights to Barcelona are also now up to 40% cheaper than in 2008, while flights to Malaga are now half price compared to last year's prices. It has also been reported that hotel rates have fallen. However, the majority of comparable savings have been swallowed by the weakness of the pound against the Euro. It is possible to save as much as 10% in Spain, 16% in France and 17% in Italy compared with prices in July 2008. Hotels are also offering extra value deals, including three for two offers and complimentary room upgrades.
