Drop offs banned at Belfast Airport

Saturday 23 May 2009 11:42pm

Travellers flying from George Best Belfast City Airport will no longer be able to be dropped off outside the terminal building from tomorrow. The airport is implementing new legislation that bans drivers from dropping people off outside the terminal building. A new one-way system has been created to re-direct drivers to a designated drop-off area in the short stay car park. Former Lord Mayor of Belfast, Jim Rodgers, commented that he thought the plan was a 'disgrace'. Mr Rodgers added: 'I know they have built a new covered area that stretches from the short stay car park to the terminal, but this is going to cause great inconvenience to many people. ' A spokesperson from Belfast Airport claimed that the new arrangements had been made in line with recommendations from the Department for Transport following the Glasgow Airport terror attack in June 2007.
