Six Nations European extravaganza for top cities

Sunday 11 Jan 2009 7:34am

Rugby fans from across Europe will have extra encouragement to stay in some of the continent's top city break destinations this year as the Six Nations rugby competition gets underway. The Six Nations brings the six best rugby-playing nations in the northern hemisphere (England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales) together in a series of head-to-head matches over six weeks. Paris' Stade de France will host France's matches against Scotland on February 14th and Wales on February 27th, giving Scottish and Welsh fans the perfect opportunity to explore the city. When Italy play Ireland on February 15th, Rome's Stadio Flaminio will be the centre of action. Rome will also host matches against Wales and France, on March 14th and 21st respectively. England will play a little closer to home when they travel to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium to play Wales on February 14th, before facing France at home at Twickenham on March 15th. Many budget airlines including Ryanair, easyJet, bmibaby, Wizzair and Flybe are providing a cheap route for supporters wanting to fly in from Europe to watch these matches. More information about the RBS Six Nations competition and the full 2009 fixture list can be found on the official Six Nations website.
