Continental Airlines launches Heathrow flights

Wednesday 28 Jan 2009 4:51am

US airline Continental Airlines has announced plans to launch a seasonal service from Cleveland to London Heathrow Airport. The new daily flights will replace the airline's current seasonal service from Cleveland to Gatwick Airport and will commence on May 2nd. Continental also announced that it will discontinue seasonal flights from Cleveland to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris as a result of the difficult economic climate. Continental's chief executive, Larry Kellner, said that the airline's seasonal service was being moved to Heathrow Airport from Gatwick in response to passenger demand, particularly the demands of business travellers. Frank Jackson, Cleveland's mayor, commented: 'We have long believed that non-stop service to Heathrow is something Cleveland needs and that it will be a boost to our business development efforts. 'I am optimistic that the region's business community will support this improved service to London in a way that will warrant Continental's consideration of extending the service year-round in the future. ' Continental Airlines also currently operates flight to Heathrow Airport from its bases at New York's Newark Liberty Airport and Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston.
