Mini-Guide To Aalborg

Aalborg is a truly different destination and one which you will find welcomes you heartily and although you may arrive as a stranger, by the time you leave you will be sure to have made some friends. It is the 4th biggest city in Denmark and yet it has a very relaxed and open feel to it, so you think of it more as a large town than as a big city. Originally it was settled around 700 Ad or so and since then has played an important role in helping to develop Denmark as we know it today.

Aalborg enjoys a very good reputation for the carnival which is held around the last week in May and is when the city explodes with visitors and the carnival atmosphere. But there is plenty to do at other times of the year as well. There is an absolutely beautiful castle, which is timber clad and dates back to the 17th Century. You can also view the House of Jens Bang built in the year 1624 and said to be a classic example of renaissance architecture. There is also a very good museum located in the city, but for those who like a little modern culture, they will not be disappointed, for Aalborg has plenty to offer in the form of nightlife, discos, clubs and bars. Indeed the Jomfru Ane Gade is a really famous street, which looks deserted during the day, but is just buzzing with energy at night. So with plenty for everyone to do, there is plenty to reasons to visit Aalborg and it is quite easy to fly to, with operators including British Airways, Scandinavian Airlines and KLM.
