<p>On 29th October 2008, <em>Sterling Airlines</em> filed for bankruptcy and ceased all flights.</p> <p>The airline was only founded in September 2005 through a merger of <em>Sterling European Airlines</em> and <em>Maersk Air</em>.</p> <p>As of 4th December 2008, <a href="/Airlines/Cimber-Air.aspx">Cimber Air</a> announced it had purchased <em>Sterling</em> (landing slots, the name, website - but not aircraft) and plans to restore the airline with gradual expansion in the near future.</p> <p>Alternative airlines to <em>Sterling</em> include:</p> <ul> <li><a href="/Airlines/Wizzair.aspx">Wizzair</a> </li> <li><a href="/Airlines/Centralwings.aspx">Centralwings</a> </li> </ul>
