New partnership between Brussels Airlines and bmi

Friday 24 Oct 2008 7:33am

Under a new partnership deal with British airline bmi, Brussels Airlines will add a further 3 destinations to its current selection of UK destinations: Edinburgh Airport, East Midlands Airport and Leeds Bradford Airport. This brings the total of destinations in Great Britain with daily flights operated by Brussels Airlines to nine. The partnership agreement will see a joint commercial offer including all bmi and Brussels Airlines' flights to and from regional destinations in the UK. As a result, Brussels Airlines will sell the 3 daily flights currently operated by bmi between Brussels Airport and Edinburgh, East Midlands and Leeds Bradford airports, while bmi will also sell flights operated by Brussels Airlines between the Belgian capital Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and Newcastle. All of these flights will carry codes from both companies: 'SN' and 'BD'. From its launch on 26th October, the new codeshare will allow Brussels Airlines to offer its customers nearly 300 flights weekly from Belgium to the UK. No other carrier currently offers as many flights between the two countries as will be offered under the new Brussels Airlines/bmi agreement. The Midlands in particular will benefit from a regular service from two airports (Birmingham and East Midlands) while further north Edinburgh will be accessible to Brussels Airlines customers for the first time. The partnership also offers a range possibilities for UK passengers, with easy connections to the wider Brussels Airlines networks in Europe, Africa and India. The new combinations of flights via Brussels will include routes such as Edinburgh-Brussels-Nairobi; Leeds-Brussels-Delhi; and East Midlands-Brussels-Bilbao. Privilege loyalty programme members stand to benefit equally from the Brussels Airlines/bmi collaboration, with the possibility of earning air miles on every flight from the UK to Brussels and beyond. Erik Follet, EVP Strategy & Business Development de Brussels Airlines said: 'we're very happy with this important new partnership, which will allow us to consolidate and extend our presence in the UK market, with the addition of 3 new destinations. It's a win-win agreement which will mean an increased service both for business and leisure passengers flying Brussels Airlines and bmi. '
