This has resulted in it becoming one of the fastest growing airports in Great Britain. Another attraction in the small town of Stansted is the House on the Hill Toy Museum. Beautifully set on the picturesque Stansted Mountfitchet, the House on the Hill Toy Museum is home to the largest collection of toys in the whole country. The House on the Hill Toy Museum is a 7,000 square foot private museum with more than 80,000 exhibits on display. Part of the collection includes Victorian toys and games to modern and high tech gadgets. It was curator Alan Goldsmith who began his collection in 1946. He bought a Hornby train set during that time. Afterwards, he decided to start his collection. Today, he and his son have become experts in toy collection. They have appeared on several TV shows and radio programs, talking about collecting antiques. Though the House on the Hill Toy Museum is private, it is open to the public all year round. If you crave some Stansted history, visit the Mountfitchet Castle and Norman Village, recognized as national historic monuments. In fact, the Department of the Environment is closely protecting the preservation of the Mountfitchet Castle and Norman Village. It is believed that there could have been a castle there since the Iron Age. However, the Mountfitchet Castle and Norman Village is already a re-constructed castle that was only built during the 13th century. It was Baron Montfitchet after whom the Mountfitchet Castle and Norman Village was named. Involved in an uprising against King John, he was one of the noblemen present during the 1215 Magna Carta. Today, the Mountfitchet Castle and Norman Village is a popular attraction and archaeological site that tourists should definitely visit.
