Southampton is one of England's major port cities, on the south east coast. It is a historical city, with a great maritime history, and also the primary port for cruise ships.

Local Airports In Southampton

Getting into Southampton is very easy – not only does it have a local airport, but it also is within easy travelling distance from Heathrow and Gatwick. The train station is also served by various major lines from across the country. Southampton is linked with the M25 and London via the M3. Car parking in the city is easy, with plenty of both pay and display and short stay car parks. Various intercity bus services run to Southampton from London. Getting around the city can be done quite easily on foot, as well as using the various regular bus services which run through the city. There are various things to do and see within the city: - The Bargate is a medieval gatehouse, sat in the middle of the shopping centre, the top floor of which is a Heritage Visitor Centre. - The Mayflower and Nuffield theatres. The Mayflower is the biggest theatre in the south of the country and regularly hosts West End shows, whilst the Nuffield Theatre is based on the university campus, and hosts performances of all types. - Jongleurs Comedy Club, near Bargate, which hosts some of the top comedians in the country. - Walk the city walls, following a signposted route which will take you along one of the most complete remaining city walls in England. - Take a trip on the Hythe Ferry to view the shipping docks. - There are various museums – The Museum of Archaeology, the Maritime Museum, the Tudor House Museum and many others.
