Mini-Guide To Sheffield

Located in the south of Yorkshire, Sheffield is one of the UK's biggest cities, renowned for its galleries and wide open green spaces. It is easy to access from the M1, and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, being situated just near the Peak District.

Local Airports In Sheffield

Getting in to Sheffield is easy, with several airports in the vicinity, as well as a train station only ten minutes walk, or a five minute tram ride, away from the city centre. If you are driving, you can get to Sheffield off junction 33 of the M1. National Express run long distance buses to the Sheffield Interchange bus station, five minutes away from the railway station, and Megabus offers a service to the Sheffield Meadowhall Interchange, which allows you to get to the city centre by tram or train. Travelling within the city can be done using the tram or bus - purchasing a dayrider ticket will allow you unlimited travel on all trams and stagecoach buses in the city. The buses are run by First Group and Stagecoach, and are regular, running every 10-20 minutes during the day and every 20-60 minutes in the evening. There is plenty to see and do in Sheffield: - Tudor Square is the UK's second largest theatre complex, with the Lyceum theatre, the Crucible theatre and the Library theatre to name but a few housed there. - The Peace Gardens and Winter Garden located next to the city hall, are beautiful spaces of greenery. The Peace Gardens contain fountains and grassy areas making it popular in the summer, whilst the Winter Garden is a conservatory filled with exotic plants and with its own coffee bar, making it ideal for when the weather is not so nice. - Showroom cinema, one of the largest independent cinemas in the UK, is located within the Cultural Industries Quarter of the city, and houses its own cafe-bar. - the Sheffield Ski Village is Europe's largest outdoor artificial ski slope, and it offers visitors the chance to take part in various winter sports on the hills overlooking the city. - Ponds Forge, near the train station, is a huge indoor swimming centre, with an Olympic sized pool and various fun pools and activities.
