Paphos, on the southwest coast of Cyprus is a wonderful city to visit. It has some spectacular archaeological sites as well as an archaeological park and the Temple of Aphrodite as well as the Odeon Theatre and the Medieval Castle. The city is reputed to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty and Aphrodite has certainly influenced the city and its development.

The archaeological sites have resulted in the old town of Paphos being included on UNESCO's world heritage list, so important are the archaeological remains and buildings to be found here. One of the things which you really should do when in Paphos is to visit the Temple of Aphrodite, where she was initially worshipped and became a goddess respected throughout the region. Another must see is the Pillar of St Paul, which was erected in honour of St Paul, who was a disciple of Jesus and who came to Paphos. However, there is plenty to do for modern day tourists who are not too interested in history. This is a fantastic beach resort, with all the amenities and things to do that you would expect to find in a city which attracts a great many visitors each year. It is particularly good for watersports and the beaches are simply stunning. So just enjoy all that this cultural beacon has to offer!
