Mini-Guide To Tehran

Tehran may not seem an obvious choice for a visit, but it is a really amazing place to visit, quite unlike most other destinations and with some basic common sense it really is quite safe. As the capital of Iran, formerly Persia, this is a city which has been populated since around 6000 BC and is simply crammed with history and culture. With its moderate climate, it is a year round destination, although it can be quite cold in January.

Local Airports In Tehran

The architecture in Tehran is simply outstanding, since it is a real mixture of ancient buildings, traditional and religious buildings as well as newer more modern structures. Culturally there is much to excite and delight, with the Golestan Palace, which dates from the 16th Century being a wonderful example of a royal palace which has been constantly updated and revised, yet is still absolutely stunning. Museums seem to be all over the city, with the Carpet Museum and the National Museum being two favourites for travellers. You should also make the time to see the Imperial Crown Jewels, which bring a whole new definition to the term lavish'. Religious buildings are also plentiful in Tehran and they reflect many different religions, since the modern Tehran is a very tolerant and progressive society. Food is also very varied here, with Persian cuisine being the most popular but other foods are also available, even vegetarian. Since around 60% of the people who live in Tehran were actually born outside the city, there is a real cosmopolitan feel to the city and this is reflected in the variety of cuisines available. So for a really different trip bursting with culture, take a trip to Tehran. Flights are offered by Air Iran and British Airways bmi.
