The Air Transport Users' Council (AUC) has found that all airport users, not just regular business travellers, want strong security at airports that is thorough but efficient.

Industry affairs manager for the AUC James Fremantle said that just because corporate passengers spend longer periods in airports than most people does not mean that safety and security are more important to them than the average traveller.

Mr Fremantle also commented that, while most passengers think of security as an important issue, they do not want it to inconvenience their movement through an airport.

"All passengers, not just business passengers, want strict and correct security but at the same time they don't want to be greatly inconvenienced by it," he said.

"They want good security but they also want it to be done efficiently so they are not delayed for ages trying to get through security queues."

Mr Fremantle added that, by and large, passengers have faith in the government’s airport security policies and “passengers will have to accept” decisions relating to increased security at airports.

This year, the Barclaycard business travel survey found that 91 per cent of business passengers feel safe when travelling through UK airports.
