Exeter Airport sees busy month ever

Monday 8 September 2008 8:03 AM

Exeter Airport experienced its busiest month in August since it opened over 70 years ago, with 114,600 passengers passing through.

The airport saw a one per cent increase in like-for-like figures in August, while traffic on charter holiday routes experienced a rise of three per cent.

Deputy managing director of Exeter Airport Jamie Christon, said he was "absolutely delighted" with the figures and commented that tourist favourites the Canary Islands and the Balearics drew the most holidaymakers.

Mr Christon commented that :"the most popular destinations from Exeter were Tenerife, Majorca, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria but there was a notable take up for the flights to Turkey and the twentieth year for our flights to Toronto have proved a great success."

He also celebrated the fact that Exeter Airport’s strong figures had been achieved in spite of the economy slow-down and decreased passenger travel at other airports.

Exeter Airport Airlines offers other destinations too, such as Amsterdam, Dublin and Brussels through carriers including Flybe.
