Singapore Airlines launches second A380 route from Heathrow

Monday 6 October 2008 7:30 AM

Singapore Airlines has begun operating a second daily A380 flight from London Heathrow to Singapore with the sixth A380 to join its fleet.

The Asian airline took delivery of its latest A380 from Airbus’ delivery centre in the French city of Toulouse on September 18th.

Singapore Airlines has a further thirteen Airbus A380s on order, with options to add another six.

The second daily A380 service was launched on September 20th, making the Heathrow to Singapore route the first anywhere in the world to be operated by the new super jumbo twice-daily.

The airline’s first A380 was brought into full service in October last year and has been deployed on the company’s routes from Singapore to Tokyo and Sydney.

Singapore Airlines announced plans earlier this month to reduce fuel surcharges on short and medium haul flights in response to the "recent easing" in aircraft fuel prices.
