Scotland gets new tourist guide

Wednesday 22 October 2008 8:08 AM

Travellers planning trips to any Scottish city can now take advantage of a new passport-sized tourist guide offering the opinions and insights of local people.

‘Real Scotland - The Locals' Guide’ has been designed to offer "insider tips, hidden gems and off-the-beaten-track experiences" and prove that there is more to Scotland than the most obvious attractions.

To order a free copy of the guide, tourists can register on the official www.VisitScotland.com website.

The guide’s contents feature a range of quirky top tens compiled by local experts, such as a run-down of Britain's most northerly locations, and park rangers' best wildlife hotspots.

Product manager at VisitScotland Kathryn Macdonald said: "We wanted to give visitors a tool to discover more of Scotland even if they have come many times before.

"From Portsoy's traditional Small Boats festival to the best place to spot otters, Real Scotland is crammed with inspiring fresh ideas and a touch of humour, which I'm sure readers will enjoy."

2009 will be an exciting year to visit Scotland as the country celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns by hosting its first 'homecoming year'.
