Exeter city council has approved plans submitted to expand Exeter Airport. Included in the new draft proposals is the doubling of the number of aircraft stands at the airport, thus creating the potential for an increase in passenger services. Also under the plan, Exeter Airport's terminal building will be expanded to accommodate the projected three-fold increase in passengers from around one million to in the region of three million. However, a series of recommended conditions, including night flight and noise restrictions, have also been imposed by the city council. Exeter city Councillor Yolonda Henson said: "The point is that the airport is going to grow, and it's right that we have some control on night flights. "We can't say no, but we have got to make sure that if it's expanding it's expanding the way we want it to." Exeter airport’s expansion is not expected to be completed until 2030, allowing the authorities more than ample time for further consultation on any of the issues raised.
