Second airport in Bangkok closes

Thursday 27 November 2008 10:49 AM

Anti-government protesters have today forced the closure of a second airport in Bangkok - the Don Mueang International Airport.

Yesterday we reported that the main Bangkok airport was forced to close with hundreds of travellers unable to fly out.  Many were also stuck in the departure lounges in "No Mans Land".

The leader of the Thailand Army is calling for new elections to end the political deadlock.

All flights have been cancelled and thousands of travellers are stranded in the Thai capital.

Frustrated travellers are being transported to hotels until the airport re-opens and flights resume.

Even when flights return to normal, it will take several days for the backlog to clear.

For people due to fly to Bangkok in the next few days, we would advise they contact their airline for an update on the situation and if or how their flight is affected.
