A380 passengers likely to have to pay surcharges

Sunday 18 November 2007 9:31 PM
In March 2008, Singapore Airlines is to start a regular daily Airbus A380 between London Heathrow and Singapore.

Passengers who had previously booked a ticket for when the A380 starts to operate the London to Singapore route may have to pay a surcharge of over £1000 for the privilege of flying on the new Airbus A380 superjumbo.

Economy tickets should remain "competitive", although first class, business or premium tickets will have a surcharge of £1000 added. Passengers who don't want to pay this additional cost are able to "change their flight".

With tickets for first class starting at over £3800, the surcharge costs are a 25% increase in passenger's ticket costs.

Luckily Singapore Airlines operate three services between London and Singapore and only one of these services will be the A380 superjumbo.

The other two routes are Boeing's 747-400 aircraft for which there will not be any additional surcharge.

Passengers are able to request whether they want to fly on the A380 or the smaller Boeing 747 planes - although the airline has said that places on specific flights may be limited.
