Luton Airport launches new drop off fee

Thursday 21 May 2009 8:46 PM

Travellers who book flights from Luton Airport will need to book car parking in advance to avoid paying a new fee.

The new £1 fee will be charged to anyone who drops passengers off at the main airport building and will come into force soon.

Drivers will pass through barriers where the fee will be paid before they can enter the refurbished drop-off area.

A local taxi driver, Paul Ruck, said that he thought Luton Airport bosses had "gone mad".

Mr Ruck went on to say that he was unimpressed by the plans, highlighting the fact that travellers would get wet if it rained.

Luton Airport currently has two customer car parks, and a two-minute bus service connecting the parking area to the main terminal buildings.

This latest initiative follows the decision by George Best Belfast City Airport officials to ban drivers from dropping people off outside the terminal buildings.

The new rules have been brought in to improve airport security and safety in the wake of the terror attack at Glasgow Airport in June 2007.
