Flybe launches new Leeds Bradford to Gatwick flights

Flybe has launched a new "lifeline" route from Leeds Bradford Airport to Gatwick to "rescue" the hub.

The airline will operate a three times daily service between the two airports from 29 June using a Bombardier Q400 aircraft.

Corporate travellers are expected to benefit from the business-friendly schedule, while up to 130 new jobs will be created by the new flights.

Flybe announced the service after bmi decided to discontinue flights to Leeds-Bradford from Heathrow Airport.

Commercial director at Leeds-Bradford airport, Tony Hallwood, said: "We welcome the introduction of Flybe services to London Gatwick which will once again provide a valuable air link to the capital for business and leisure travellers.

"We also look forward to working with our regional tourism partners to encourage an increase in the number of visitors to the Yorkshire region from London and the south-east."

Flybe also operates a network of European services to destinations including Amsterdam, Malaga, Paris and Milan.
