British Airways raise fuel charges
Thursday 1 May 2008 10:28 PM
With oil prices continuing to climb, British Airways has become the latest arline to announce an increase in surcharges for its flights from 2nd May.Passengers already having booked their tickets will not be affected, but any tickets booked after 2nd may will have to pay an extra £26 for a short-haul return journey and £158 for a long-haul return flight of more than 9 hours. For flights lasting up to 9 hours, there will be a £126 surcharge. Single flights will pay half the surcharge of the equivalent return journey. Rising fuel costs account for a higher proportion of airline operating costs, and aviation analysts have said that airline have no choice but to pass some of these costs on to passengers to allow them to operate without loss. Its expected that other airlines will follow suit in the coming months.
