Monday 7 May 2007 12:03 PM
Popular North England airport, Leeds-Bradford Airport has been bought out by Bridgeport Capital for £145.5 million. The airport is currently owned by five local council authorities and this sale brings a cash-windfall for them - with the new owner paying just over 30 times the airport's annual earnings. The high price paid by the new owner illustrates the business potential of the airport - and is also good news for the local economy as the growth over the past few years looks to continue. Immediately after the completed sale, the new owner of the Leeds-Bradford Airport announced a £70 million investment in the airport in the next few years. Key areas for this big investment include improving the runway and terminal building to more than double capacity to 7 million by 2015. Additionally, they look to increase the number of routes from 40 to 60 - and provide passengers with even more choice and finally, the terminal facilities will be improved providing more shops, bars and restaurants for passengers. The airport currently handles nearly 3 million passengers per year - to a variety of UK and non-UK destinations.
