New service will reconnect Edinburgh Airport to Barcelona

Saturday 20 March 2010 8:30 PM
Starting in May, Spanair will allow a reconnection between the Scottish capital and Spain

With a new service from Spanair, the Edinburgh Airport will now be reconnected with the city of Barcelona in Spain. Since the end of 2009, there has been no link between Barcelona and the Scottish capital since Flyglobespan collapsed.

But with Spanair at its helm, from May 21st, there will be regular flights between the two cities every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Says Mike Szucs, the chief executive officer of Spanair, "It will now be possible for passengers to enjoy everything that Spain has to offer on account of our new renewed ties with Barcelona. The Spanish peninsula that could previously only be reached through low cost charter carriers can now be seen 5 days a week."

At the same time, two new Spanair services at the Birmingham Airport will be put into place to connect Barcelona and Madrid. These services will start from May 20th to Barcelona running every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from May 25th, direct flights to the Spanish capital will run each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from Birmingham Airport.

The Spanair service from Birmingham Airport to Barcelona is to be used as a replacement for the Bmibaby route which will soon come to an end on June 7th
