Vueling carries more passengers within Spain as popularity grows and prices drop

Sunday 9 March 2008 8:48 PM
Spanish based Vueling carried a total of 426,153 passengers in February - a growth of almost 25% compared to the same time last year.

Although the Spanish market is dominated by Ryanair and easyJet, other airlines such as Vueling are having a hard time competing with these market leaders.

Load factor, which gives the average percentage of seats sold per flight, dropped by 4% to 64.6% during the month compared to same month in previous years.

Vueling's announcement in December was that its priority for the coming year was to generate as much revenue per flight as possible - even if that mean reducing the load-factor - or the number of passengers on each flight.

With profit margins per passenger getting smaller, cost cutting and streamlining of processes has helped the airline to still be more profitable with less passengers.
