Thursday 13 March 2008 9:01 PM
Doncaster/Sheffield's Robin Hood Airport has seen continuing passenger numbers as more people use the airport.

Despite only opening as an airport in April 2005, over 2.75 million people have flown from the north of England airport.

The airport serves almost 50 destinations across the world with direct non-stop flights from the airport which is on the border between Doncaster and Sheffield.

More passengers are taking advantage of the airport, rather than use the Manchester or East Midlands airports.

Poland is a popular destinations for both travellers and Polish people living in the surrounding area wanting to fly back to their home country.

Dublin is a particulary popular route with Ryanair having flown over 250,000 passengers on that route since April 2005.

The top 5 destinations for the start of 2008 were: Alicante, Dublin, Malaga, Tenerife and Katowice.

Hugh Lang from the airport said [quote] "We’re happy to report the growth in passenger throughput year on year, which demonstrates the continued impact Robin Hood Airport has on the airport region. We’re looking ahead to new routes opening over the next few months including Polish capital Warsaw, and holiday flights to Heraklion in Crete".
