Birmingham Airport has best ever February

Situated in the centre of England, Birmingham Airport has reported its traffic figures for February 2008 with passenger numbers beating all previous months.

Some 635,052 passengers used the airport in February - an increase of over 9% compared to the same time last year.

Charter flights accounted for approximately 17% of the total traffic with destinations such as Bulgaria, Finland, Egypt and spain proving popular. Over 107,000 people flew on charter flights during the month.

Over 527,000 people flew on scheduled flights with budget airlines taking a large percentage of the market. Destinations such as Bratislava, Murcia and Faro has some of the highest increase in passengers.

Joe Kelly from the airport said [quote] "It was a record-breaking February for the airport, which is great news."

The growth of flights within the EU stood at 15.4% and flights outside the EU grew by 10.3%.

Growth and increase passenger numbers for the airport are expected to continue over the coming months with Ryanair being in the process of setting up its base at the airport with over 20 new destinations on offer by the airline.

Over 50 airlines fly from Birmingham and it is the 6th biggest airport in the UK.
