Thursday 19 June 2008 8:47 AM

The beautiful Maldive islands are to be more accessible from this winter as Srilankan Airlines is to start direct non-stop flights between London's Heathrow Airport and Male in the Maldives.

Starting on 26th October, the Srilankan airline will fly twice a week between the two cities with a flight time of just over 11 hours.

The Maldives are a popular holiday destination for tourists with its guaranteed sunshine, warm climate and beautiful beaches.

Chanaka Olagama from SriLankan Airlines said "we believe that this new direct service will provide a time-effective way to travel in style and comfort to their paradise location".
