Ryanair has a large market share of the low-cost airline network in Europe and by comparison, Hungary based Wizzair is still in its infancy and only started operating in 2003.Ryanair and Wizzair compete only for the Polish market and Ryanair said at the start of 2007 that it planned to become the biggest low-cost airline in Poland. Wizzair CEO Josef Varadi said that his airline expects to carry 3.5 million passengers in 2007 for the Polish market alone. Ryanair look to be carrying 2.8 million this year, so Wizzair look to be taking a larger part of the Polish market than Ryanair - 15% of the market for Wizzair and 11% for Ryanair. With Wizzair in negotiations to expand its network of destinations and providing low cost transport to central and Eastern Europe. With this growth, there is no immediate danger of Ryanair catching up and dominating the market.
