US adds more air marshalls on transatlantic flights

Sunday 1 July 2007 8:54 PM
With the recent terrorist attack in Glasgow and failed attacks in London, the United States are adding more air-marshalls to transatlantic flights - due to the increased threats in the UK and Europe.

Air Marshalls is a term given to American security agents travelling undercover on commercial flights and their role is to stop aircraft hijackings.

In the US, flights with Swiss, Air India, Indian Airliens, United Airlines and British Airways can have air marshalls assigned to the flight.

The July 4th celebrations is one of the busiest times of year for people travelling through airports, and US airports are tightening security in general, but the increase in air marshalls is as a direct results of the terrorism threat in the UK and Europe.
