The UK's Polish community is strong in the Midlands area of the UK and there is a high demand for flights to and from Poland for family and friends to fly back and forth. To cater for this demand, bmibaby have announced a new Birmingham to Warsaw service that will operate three times a week and starting from 27th May 2008. This new service is in addition to the existing East Midlands to Warsaw service that operates four times a week. A combination of both routes sees bmibaby operating atleast one flight a day from the Midlands (covering Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire) to the Polish capital. Although bmibaby is not the biggest budget/low cost carrier in the UK, it is the biggest operating from Birmingham Airport and has over 350 flights a week going in and out of the airport. bmibaby's commercial director, David Hodger said [quote] "bmibaby’s new Polish route to Warsaw from Birmingham reinforces the airlines commitment to growth and the tailoring of its route network to meet ever changing consumer needs. The UK Polish community is a modern day phenomena and the new route from Birmingham will provide valuable links for friends and family in Poland and the Midlands region." The additional service from Birmingham brings the total number of bmibaby destinations from Birmingham to 24. bmibaby's other bases at Cardiff and East Midlands provide flights across Europe to cities such as Krakow and Gdansk.
